Abstract
PURPOSE:
@EN Bone disease (metabolic bone disease of prematurity ) is now being increasingly recognized in surviving preterm infants. TPN(total parenteral nutrition) solution has been preparing for 5 months in the department of our hospital pharmacy.
The purpose of this study is to compare the incidence of bone disease of the infants who received calcium and phosphorus in TPN solution with that of bone disease of the infants who did not receive calcium and phosphorus.
@ES METHODS:
@EN We checked wrist X-ray at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 months after delivery, and bone density by DPX and biochemical examination.
@ES RESULTS:
@EN The Clinical features were similar in tow groups. parenteral nutritional solutions were same except calcium and phosphorus content and the amount of supplied calcium was 70mg/kg and that of phosphorus was 41mg/kg. The incidences of bone
diseases by
X-ray were 28.6%/41.6% with/without calcium and phosphorus. There were no differences in biochemical examination and bone density in both groups, but bone density was increased according to increased birth weight.
@ES CONCLUSIONS:
@EN Calcium and phosphorus deficiences are the main causes of metabolic bone disease of prematurity. More calcium and phosphorus in parenteral nutritional solution and premature milk would be required to prevent metabolic bone disease of
prematurity.
